HOLY NAME SOCIETY
The Confraternity of the Most Holy Names of God and Jesus (Holy Name Society) promotes reverence for the Sacred Names of God and Jesus Christ, obedience and loyalty to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, and the personal sanctification and holiness of its members.
The Holy Name Society is committed to helping its members grow in holiness through devotion to the most Holy Name of Jesus. Members of this fraternity are called to be leaders, to cleanse themselves in the sacrament of penance, strengthen themselves with the most Holy Eucharist, nourish their souls on Sacred Scripture, increase their desire for divine love through prayer, and lead their families, friends, and coworkers to Christ Jesus by their acts of charity and piety.
Members are called to contribute to the evangelization mission of the Church and to make perpetual acts of reverence and love for our Lord and Savior. The apostolate of the society is to assist in parish ministries by performing the Corporal Works of Mercy: to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, give drink to the thirsty, shelter to the homeless, tend the sick, visit those in prison, and bury the dead; as well as the Spiritual Works of Mercy: to convert sinners, instruct the ignorant, counsel the wayward, comfort the sorrowing, bear adversity patiently, forgive offenses, and pray for the living and the dead.
The Holy Name Society was established at Immaculate Conception at a mission conducted in June 1922, by the Reverend Anselm Sell, 0.M.C. At the organization meeting 150 men joined the society. Any male parishioner 18 years or older is encouraged to join. Meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of each quarter after the 7:00 P.M. Mass. The Immaculate Conception Holy Name Society currently holds two very successful fundraisers a year to benefit its mission, a spring and fall pancake and sausage breakfast. With the money raised at these breakfasts they are able to carry out several projects each year and contribute to several charitable organizations. The Holy Name Society has funded the CCD Program at Immaculate Conception in recent years and contributes financially to parishioners and valley neighbors experiencing hardships of all kinds.
St. Luke’s Holy Name Society has been established for a long time. They meet, primarily, on the first Sunday of the month at 7:00pm. The society works with the St. Luke Altar and Rosary Society as sponsors for the annual Spaghetti Dinner for the past 75 years and the annual Sauerkraut Dinner for the past 55 years. The society has overseen many construction/improvements to the church, rectory and grounds as well as maintenance/upkeep tasks for the church as a whole. All money raised by the society is used for numerous church needs and non-profit needs. The society supports the Religious Education program, the Capuchin Sisters, the Christmas Brunch, the Men’s Christmas Party and promotes spirituality through socialization and community work.
Needless to say, Men’s Organizations have an essential role to play in the worship and praise that the Church offers to God. The ministry, done well, serves not only God, but the people of God, the church.
