St. Anthony's Center - What we do.

The St. Anthony's Center is a non-profit organization established in 1980 under the capable leadership of Sister Henry Lambert.  Several regular staff members are assisted by a corps of more than 100 volunteers under the oversight of a volunteer Board of Directors.

Although there are several reasons for Saint Anthony's success, the key is that it is ecumenical.  It's volunteer staff, Board of Directors, contributors, and those whom it serves come from many different faiths and help to provide:

  • Food for the hungry
  • Free Medical Clinic facility
  • Clothing, preowned furniture & appliances for those in need
  • Shelter during disasters
  • Retreats for overnight and single day sessions.

We remember and respond to Jesus' words: I was hungry and you gave me something to eat;...whatever you do to the least of these my brothers and sisters, you do it to me.

(Mt. 25:31-46)

Feeding the Hungry, Monday - Friday: 12 noon - 1 pm

The first task of St. Anthony's Center is providing food for a noon meal which is made available to anyone who enters each weekday throughout the year.  The variety of menu is limited only by what donations have been received.

The staff makes use of a large storage room for canned items and a walk-in freezer to store meats and seasonally available vegetables.  Crews of people from around the area volunteer each day to cook and serve.

Clothing, Tuesday & Thursday: 10am - 1pm

Another part of the Center is making available clothing free of charge to any who ask.  The room facing Fourth Street is  open two days each week to receive and distribute clothing for all ages.

Clinic, Monday: 7pm - 8:30pm, Wednesday: 11am - 12:30pm

St. Anthony's Medical Clinic offers primary care, free of charge, to all in our community.  Volunteer physicians, nurses, and office staff are available on Monday evenings and Wednesday midday.  Physicals are available on the first Thursday of the month.

The Clinic is able to provide some medicines which have been donated and offers initial prescriptions for those medicines needed which are beyond the scope of the clinic.  Certain specialists also make themselves available for consultation.

Retreats

As well as immediate survival needs, we offer time and space for thought and prayer.

St. Anthony House of Prayer is a retreat in the mountains near Brookside with accomodations for 14 persons overnight and for 30 in single day programs.

What can you do?

  • Donate food when you seasonally have more than you can use.
  • Donate time as a volunteer in food service, health clinic, clothing room, etc.
  • Donate money.  We depend entirely on your donations.  We exist without any government funding.
  • Think of the House of prayer when you are planning a retreat group.
  • Remember St. Anthony's Center and its work in your prayers.
  • Include St. Anthony's Center when you write your will and make estate plans.

Dear Friends,

Over the past 30 years we have been able to serve over a million meals to the less fortunate of our area.  This, of course could not have been accomplished without the help of so many good people; those who volunteer, those who donate financially, those who help us in so very many ways.

I would like to "thank" all of you for your kindness to us and want you to know how very grateful we are for all you have done for us here at St. Anthony's.

Now, I ask for our continued support and prayers.  Without your help, we could not do what we do here.  God is so good to us and we want to be His helpers in His service to the poor.  I know we can count on your help.  God bless and reward you for all that you do.

In Christ's Love,

Sister Henry SCC
